Answer: 32 students initially

Average weight of class = 60.5 kg

Average weight of 8 new students = 65 kg

So, Amount of weight added to the average = 4.5 x 8 = 36kg

Average weight of class increased by 0.9 kg

No. of students in class = 36/0.9 = 40

No. of students in class initially = 40 - 8 = 32
