seeds have a seed coat which protects them while they grow and develop, usually underground. inside the seed would be a tiny plant called the embryo ( the baby plant ). the two large parts of the seeds are called cotyledons. the cotyledons are the stored food that the young plant would use while it is growing. monocots are seeds which have only one cotyledon such as the corn seed. when the seeds became to grow the embryo becomes the plant and the other parts becomes the roots of the plant
