the bark of wood is dead epithelial deposited over time but it has small stomatal pores through which the exchange takes place.

Bark is the outermost layer of a woody tree that protects the tree from climatic conditions. It has two parts; soft bark and a hard bark.

The outer or the hard bark is made up of cork cambium whereas the inner is made up of phloem tissues.

So the question is how exchange of gases takes place. It takes place through raised pores present on the bark called lenticels.
