1/2 * bh=A

b=h+4

1/2 * h(h+4)=48

1/2(h^2+4h)=48

h^2+4h=96

h^2+4h-96=0

(h-8)(h+12)=0

h=8, b=12

Given

  • The area of triangle=48cm²

LET

  • The altitude of triangle be X
  • The base of triangle be X+4

According to the above information

Area of triangle

 =  >  \frac{1}{2}  \times b \times a = 48 \\  \\  =  >  \frac{1}{2}  \times (x + 4) \times x = 48 \\  \\  =  >  {x}^{2}  + 4x = 96 \\  \\  =  >  {x}^{2}  + 4x - 96 = 0 \\  \\  =  >  {x}^{2}  + 12x - 8x - 96 = 0 \\  \\  =  > x(x + 12) - 8(x + 12) = 0 \\  \\  =  > (x - 8)(x + 12) = 0 \\  \\  =  > x = (8 )\: ( - 12)

  • negative value can't be kept
  • so, value of X=8cm

Dimension of triangle

  • base=12cm
  • altitude=8cm
