$400 \: {m}^{2} = \frac{1}{2} \times 2x \times x$

$400 \times 2 = 2 {x}^{2}$

${x}^{2} = \frac{400 \times 2}{2} = 400$

$x = \sqrt{400}$

$x = 20 \: m$

$length \: of \: the \: base \: = 2x \: = 2(20) = 40 \: m$
