The base of an isosceles is 14cm and its perimeter is 36cm.find its area

Area = 42√2cm²

Explanation

Base = 14cm

P = 36cm

∴ Length of other two sides = 36 - 14 = 22cm

∴ Length of each side = 22/2 cm = 11cm

Semiperimeter = P/2 = 18cm

Area using Heron's formula,

= √ [s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)]

= √ (18 x 4 x 7 x 7)

= √ (9 x 4 x 2 x 49)

= (3 x 2 x 7)√2

= 42√2 cm²
