In an isosceles triangle 2 sides are equal.

∴ Perimeter = 12 + x + x

  32 = 12 + 2x

  32 - 12 = 2x

  20 = 2x

  10 = x

∴ Each of the remaining 2 sides of the triangle = 10 cm

Using pythagoras theorem,

Height of triangle ⇒ hyp.² = ht.² + b²

                                    10² = ht.² + 6²

                                    100 = ht.² + 36

                                    100 - 36 = ht.²

                                    64 = ht.²

                                    8 = ht.

∴ Height = 8 cm

∴ Area = 1/2 * b* h

            = 1/2 * 12 * 8

            = 48 cm²
