We know that in an isosceles triangle, two sides are equal.
So, Given here:
Base         = 6cm
Perimeter =16cm
Length       = ?
So, let's keep the length as 'x'.
What they have asked is to find their length.
Then,
         x + x + 6 = 16 cm
           2x   + 6 = 16 cm
           2x   = 16 - 6 = 10 cm
             x    = 10 / 2 = 5 cm
Therefore, we found that the length of each side is 5 cm.
Hence, we verified that perimeter of a triangle if 16 cm = 5 + 5 + 6.

let one side be x
as it is an isosceles triangle two sides will be equal
so let both the sides be x
perimeter = sum of all sides
x + x + 6 = 16
2x = 16 - 6
2x = 10
x = 5cm

hope it helps you
