Given :  base of an isosceles triangle is 8cm and each of its equal sides measures 6cm

To Find :  area of the triangle.

Solution:

Method 1 :

Draw a perpendicular on Base

perpendicular on unequal side in isosceles triangles bisect the side

8/2 = 4 cm

Apply Pythagoras theorem

6² - 4² = h²

=> 36 - 16 = h²

=> 20 = h²

=> 2√5  = h

Area of Triangle = (1/2) bh

= (1/2) * 8 * 2√5

= 8 √5 cm²

Method 2:

Using Heron Formula

s = (6 + 6 + 8)/2  = 10

Area = √(10(10 - 6)(10 -6)(10-8))

=√(10(4)(4)(2))

=√( 2*5)(4)(4)(2))

= √( 2²*5)(4²)

= 2 * 4 √5

= 8√5 cm²
