Step-by-step explanation:

Let height of the triangle be x cm

=> base = x + 4 cm

Area = 48 cm^2

=> 1/2 x base x height = 48

=> 1/2*( x + 4) *( x) = 48

=> x^2/2 + 2x - 48 = 0

=> x^2/2 - 4x + 6x - 48 = 0

=> x/2( x - 8) + 6( x - 8)= 0

=> ( x/2 + 6)( x - 8) = 0

=> either x/2 + 6 = 0 or x - 8 = 0

=> either x = - 12 or x = 8

but length cannot be negative, so x = 8

Hence,

height = 8 cm

base = 8 + 4 = 12 cm
