Therefore, as the basic principle of democracy it was decided that people should be the source of all the political power. This helped in making sure that due respect was given to diverse groups and the various views that existed in the society. Moreover, everyone was given the right to voice their opinions.

Therefore, it is said that in a democracy, people rule themselves through institutions of self government.
