Total number of animals going to the river = 10

Given :

1 rabbit saw 9 elephants while on its way to the river.

Each elephant saw 3 monkeys going to the river.

Each monkey had 1 tortoise in each hand.

To find :

Total number of animals going to the river

Solution :

It is said that 1 rabbit saw 9 elephants while on its way to the river.

This means no animals saw 9 elephants going to the river.

Therefore, the number of rabbits going to the river = 1

Number of elephants going towards the river = 0

Every elephant saw 3 monkeys going to the river.

Number of monkeys going towards the river = 3

Each monkey had 1 tortoise in each hand.

This means each monkey has 2 tortoises with them, one in each hand.

Therefore 3 monkeys have 3 x 2 = 6 tortoises with them

Number of tortoises going to the river = 6

Therefore, the total number of animals going towards the river

= 1 rabbit + 0 elephant + 3 monkeys + 6 tortoises

= 10 animals

Therefore, the number of animals going to the river = 10
