Question

The beam AB is hinged at A and roller supported at B. It is loaded as shown in figure. Find the reactions at A & B

Answer:

Rb=4KN and Ra=5KN

Given:

  • Span of beam = 6 m
  • Let RA = Reaction at A
  • RB = Reaction atB

SOLUTION

(a)   Analytical method. As the beam is in equilibrium, the moments of all

the forces about any point should be zero.

Now taking the moment of all forces about A, and equating the resultant moment to zero, we get

⇒ RB x6-3 x-6x4=0

⇒from here,RB= 30/6 =5KN

⇒ALSO for equillibrium ,∑Fy=0

Ra+RB=6+3=9

Ra=9

⇒Rb=9-5=4kn
