Explanation:

Given The binding energy of a satellite revolving around planet in a circular orbit is 3 × 10 9 J.Its kinetic energy is

  • Due to the orbital motion the kinetic energy of a satellite is revolving around the planet in circular orbit.
  • So K.E = GMm / 2r
  • Now the energy required to remove the satellite from its orbit around the planet to infinity is the Binding energy.
  • So Binding energy = energy of satellite at infinity – energy of satellite in its orbit
  •                                = 0 – (- GMm / 2r)
  •        Or Binding energy = GMm / 2r
  • From both the equations we have K.E = B.E
  • Therefore the binding energy of satellite revolving around the planet in a circular orbit is  3 x 10^9 J
