The blood components which protect from diseases are the WBCs (White Blood Cells).

About the components of blood:-

RBC:-

  • It contains a red pigment known as haemoglobin which has high affinity for oxygen. It helps in transporting Oxygen to different parts of the body.

  • These are biconcave and denucleated.

  • There are about 5-5.5 million per cubic mm of blood (called RBC count).

Blood Plasma:-

  • It is pale straw - coloured non - living fluidly matrix (liquid part) of blood.

  • It forms about 56 - 60% of blood and is formed of water (90-92%), Inorganic salts (1-2%), proteins (7-8%) and other organic compounds like glucose, amino acids, vitamins, urea, uric acid, hormones, antibodies, etc.

  • It plays a vital role in blood clotting while injury.
