Then 12/x+40/y=8; 16/x+32/y=8
Now let 1/x=u and 1/y=v
so, equation ll change in
12u+40v=8; 16u+32v=8
Now by solving both equations we ll get u= 1/4 and v=1/8 so, x=4 and y =8
Therefore speed of boat= (x+y)/2; (4+8)/2=6km/h and speed of water= (8-4)/2; =2km/h
