The bob of a simple pendulum of length 1 m has mass 100 g and a speed of 1.4 m/s at the lowest point in its path. Find the tension in the string at the instant. Suppose the bob of the problem has a speed of 1.4 m/s when the string makes an angle of 0.20 radian with the vertical. Find the tension at the instant. You can use cosθ≈1-θ²/2 and sinθ≈θ for small θ.

For the second part, Follow the answer written below.

T = mg Cosθ + mv²/r

⇒ T = 0.1 × 10 × Cosθ  + 0.196

⇒ T =  (1 - θ²/2) + 0.196

∴ T = (1 - (0.2)²/2) + 0.196

⇒ T = (1 - 0.02) + 0.196

∴ T = 0.98 + 0.196

⇒ T = 0.98 + 0.196

∴ T =  1.176 N.

Hope it helps.
