The body loses water and salts in sweat. Explain why drinking large volumes of plain water after exercising may affect the salt balance in the body.
Answers
Answer:
When exercising, sweat is produced. This results to the loss of water and electrolytes in the body. Sodium is one of the major electrolytes. This is the reason why our body needs to be hydrated when doing this activity. If water inside the body is not replenished, it may result to dizziness, fatigue, muscle spasms, heat exhaustion or even heat stroke. In order to maintain homeostasis, a balance between water and sodium is important. In this case, if the body will drink too much plain water, it may result to sodium deficiency. It may also result to a more dangerous condition called hyponatremia, wherein the body fluids have insufficient amount of sodium. This condition may cause the body to go in shock and the circulatory system to collapse.
