Bond order= No. of bonding electrons- No. of antibonding electrons/ 2

= 10- 8/2 = 1

bond order= 1

Answer with Explanation:

Bond strength or stability of the molecule or ion depends on the bond order. Bond order is directly proportional to the stability. The higher the bond order is, the higher the stability of the molecule or ion.

Peroxide ion is represented by (O2)-2. It has two (2) oxygen atoms with -2 charge .

Considering No. of e in bonding and antibonding molecular orbitals, bond order of peroxide ion (O2)-2 is 6-4/2 = 1.

I hope this will help you.
