Explanation:

Under British rule, India was forced to supply tons of raw cotton to factories in England and import mill cloth. With the influx of inexpensive and easy to maintain mill cloth, weavers lost their livelihood, and when famine or natural calamities struck they died tragically without the means to sustain themselves. Remarking on these happenings in the mid-19th century, Lord Bentick regretted that, “the bones of cotton weavers are bleaching the plains of India”.
