The bottom of a rectangular tank measures 20cm long and 10cm wide. If 1 litre of water is poured into it, how deep is the water?

very simple..
Area of bottom (cross-section) of tank  =  20 * 10 = 200 cm²
Volume of water poured into it = 1 litre = 1000 cm³
let the height or depth of water be H cm. 
Then volume of water in tank is = area * height = 200 * H cm³

  So       200 H = 1000     =>    H = 5 cm

volume = l*b*h
1000=20*10*h
h= 1000/200
h= 5cm
