the boy observed the top of an electric pole at an angle of elevation of 60 degrees when the observation point is 8m away from the foot of the pole . find the height of the pole.

From the figure, in ∆OAB

OB = 8 meters

∠AOB = 60°

✎ Let, height of the pole = AB = h meters

( We know the adjacent side and we need to find the opposite of ∠AOB in the triangle ∆OAB. Hence we need to consider the trigonometric ratio " tan " to solve the problem ).

☞ tan60° = AB/OB

☞ √3 = h/8

☞ ∴ h = 8√3 m.

Hence the height of the pole is 8√3m .
