The BP statistical Review of World Energy in June measured total global oil at 188.8 million tonnes, from proved oil resources at the end of 2010. This is only enough for oil to last for the next 46.2 years. What measures should be taken to conserve oil? What will happen if we do not conserve it?

Answer:

Oil can be conserved in the following ways:

1. Unplugging and switching off electrical appliances when not in use.

2. Appliances utilising less energy should be purchased( Energy star ones)

3. Planting more and more trees can provide a cooling effect and thereby less use of cooling appliances.

4. Avoiding the usage of private cars and adopt practices like walking or using public transport.

5. Alternative sources of energy such as natural gas, solar panels need to be adopted.

6. Avoid usage of plastics as much as possible.

Oil is essential directly or indirectly for transportation, cooking, clothes, pharmaceuticals and many more and hence if we do not conserve oil, one day it will completely get depleted from the Earth's surface as they are mostly non-renewable in nature.
