The brakes are applied to a car moving with velocity of 12 m/s. It produce an acceleration of 6 ms-2in the opposite direction to the motion. If the car takes 2s to stop after the application of brakes, calculate the distance it travels during this time.

Here,
• u = 12 m/s
• acceleration = -6 m/s² ( since it is in opposite direction )
• time taken to stop = 2 sec
using 2nd equation of motion ,
=> s = ut + 1/2 at²......
where, s = displacement
=> s = 12×2 + 1/2 (-6)(2)²
=> s = 24 - 12 = 12 m
[==> Distance traveled = 12 m ]
