The reason for this is obvious because Britain had tightened the entire Indian economy under its grip. Britain set its policies in relation to India to its own interests, bypassing India's basic needs.

While industrial development was at its peak in Britain and social and cultural progress was being made. On the other hand, economic disasters were coming in India and India was moving towards socially and culturally backwardness, all due to the selfish policies of the British Empire.

It is worth noting here that when the Industrial Revolution started in Britain, it was at about the same time that the British conquered Bengal.
