after the battle in plassey in 1757 and the battle in buxar in 1764 and gaining the diwani and the company expand it's rule in many parts of India as it had decided several plans one among them was subsidiary alliance according to the alliance

  • Indian rulers we're not allowed to have there own independent forces
  • they were to be protected by the company but pay for the subsidiary forces that the company was supposed to maintain for the purpose of their protection
  • if Indian rulers failed to make payment the company was taken that part of territory has penalty.for example in 1801 nawab of awadh forced to give over of his territory for fail to make payment for the subsidiary forces.
