The British museum in London was founded in the year of 1753.
The museum was established on request of Irish physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane to King George II.
Sloane had a collection of around 71000 objects, in which the number of printed books were 40000, 7000 manuscripts, 337 of dried plant specimens, prints and drawings by some famous artists.
It's been over 266 years after the establishment of the museum. As of now the museum has been visited by over 6 million visitors, admiring over 8 million different objects from various sections.
Sir Richard Lambert is the current chairman of the museum and Hartwig Fischer, a German art historian holds the chair of the Director.
