The correct answer is Batta.  The British soldiers were entitled to a foreign service allowance or Batta.   Indian soldiers were disappointed with the British because they refused to pay Batta for fighting in far isolated regions of the country like Punjab and Sindh.   British refusal to pay Batta was one of the chief reasons behind the revolt of 1857.

The British soldier were entitled to a foreign service allowance or what is called as Batta.

There was a great discrimination between the soldiers of India and British.

Indian soldiers were paid a very less salary as compared to the Britisher soldiers.

These reasons and some other led to the Revolt of 1857.
