Length of a rectangular garden is 5 m longer than its
breadth and its area is 1050 m2. If the cost of fancing
material is Rs. 150 per meter, find the total cost of the
fancing material to enclose the rectangular garden.

let the length of a rectangular garden be x and that of breadth be y.

Therefore, from given condition,

x=y+5................. (1)

Since we know that,

Area of a rectangle=l×b

1050=xy

1050=y(y+5)...........(From (1) )

1050=y²+5y

y²+5y-1050=0

y²+35y-30y-1050=0

y(y+35) -30(y+35) =0

(y-30) (y+35) =0

y=30 or y =-35

But breadth can't be negative,

hence y=-35 is unacceptable

y=30

Now substituting the value of y in (1)

x=y+5....... (1)

x=30+5=35

Hence, length=35m

breadth=30 m

Perimeter of a rectangle=2(l+b)

=2(35+30)

=2×65

=130 m

It is given that cost of fencing material is ₹150 per meter.

Therefore, total cost=150×130=19500 Rs
