Once upon a time in our country India, polio was a huge menace.

It caused several casualties, then the government came up with schemes which would benefit the common citizens.

Polio vaccines and drops were given for free to each and everyone for free.

We have almost eradicated this disease from India with the co-ordination of government and citizens.

It is a clear example here one could see if the government and citizens work together, anything could be achieved.

(1) The rate of infant mortality in India was very high.

(2) Before 1978, every 6 out of 10 newborn babies had to face fatal health problems in the very first year of their birth.

(3) Polio, measles, tetanus, diphtheria, TB and whooping cough were very common among the infants.

To overcome the threat of fatal diseases, the immunisation programme was taken up.
