The correct answer to the question will be energy i.e the capacity of doing work by an object is known as energy.

Work and energy are inter convertible. When a body does some amount of work, the body has to perform this in the expense of its energy.

One may take an example of a moving body. Let us consider a body which was moving with velocity u. Let its speed is increased to v in time t. Here, the work done by the body is nothing else except the change in kinetic energy of the body.

The internal energy of a body is the sum total of its kinetic and potential energy . When we compress a cylinder filled with gases, the work will be done on the system. Here, one will notice the change in its kinetic and potential energy.
