The car A of mass 1500 kg, travelling at 25 m/s collides with another car B of mass 1000kg travelling at 15m/s in the same direction. After collision the velocity of car A becomes 20m/s. Calculate the velocity of car B after the collision.

Answer: 22.5m\s

Explanation:

Here, the mass of car A, m1=1500kg, initial velocity of car A, u1=25m/s

mass of car B, m2=1000kg, initial velocity of car B, u2=15m/s

After collision velocity of car A, v1=20m/s, velocity of car B v2 ?

As total momentum after collision = total momentum before collision,

m1v1 + m2v2 = ,1u1 +m2u2 or v2 =22500 \ 1000=22.5 m\s
