the car hire charge in a city comprise of a fixed charge together with charge for the distance covered. for journey of 12 km the charge paid is RS.89 and for a journey of 20 km the charge paid is RS.145. what will a person have to pay for traselling a distance of 30km

LET THE FIXED CHARGE BE = x

LET CHARGE REQUIRED FOR DISTANCE COVERED = y

A.T.Q,

x+12y = 89 ----- 1

x+20y = 145 -----2

by elimination method we get,

-8y = -56

y = 56/ 8

y = 7

x = 89 - 12*7    from eq. 1

x = 5

cost for 30 km = x + 30y

cost for 30 km = 5+ 30*7

cost for 30 km  =215 rs
