Given:-

Initial velocity(u)=5m/s

Distance covered(s)=50m

Time taken=20s

To find:-

Retardation of the car(negative acceleration)

Solution:-

By the second equation of motion,we get-----

s = ut +  \frac{1}{2} a {t}^{2}

 =  > 50 = 5 \times 20 +  \frac{1}{2}a \times  {20}^{2}

 =  > 50 = 100 + 200a

 =  > 50 - 100 = 200a

 =  >   - 50 = 200a

 =  > a =   \frac{ - 50}{200}

=> a= -0.25m/s²

Since,acceleration of the car is -0.25m/s²

Thus,retardation is 0.25m/s².
