Banjara. The Banjara (also called Gor, Lamans, Lambadi, Lambhani, Lambani and Gormati) are a community usually described as nomadic people with origins in Rajasthan. They spread gradually into Kashmir, Bengal, Karnataka and Gujarat, and are now found all over India.

The Caravan of Banjaras is known as Tanda.

Explanation:

  • The Banjaras are one of the largest nomadic tribes in India and are called the Nayak, Lamani or Lambadi. They originated from the Marwar region of Rajasthan.
  • The banjaras speak the Gor Bol language which belonged to the Indo-Aryan group of Languages in ancient history.
  • They are normally found in the south Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and also in Uttar Pradesh.
  • They are famous for textile embroidery, rangoli, paintings, and tattooing. Lambani women are famous for ‘lepo’ embroidery’.
