Since the unknown metal carbonate is isomorphic with MgCO3

Let the formula of the unknown be XCO3 and atomic weight of X be x a.m.u

Molecular weight of XCO3 = (x + 12 + 48)g = (60 + x)g

% composition of carbon = {12/(60 + x)} * 100%

ATQ,

{12/(60 + x)} * 100% = 6.091%

=>{12/(60 + x)} * 100 = 6.091

=>{12/(60 + x)} = 0.06091

=>12 = 60*0.06091 + 0.06091x

=>12 = 3.6546 + 0.06091x

=>0.06091x = 8.3454

=>x = 137.01

Therefore the atomic weight of the metal is 137.01 a.m.u and it can be recognized as barium
