Answer: 1 to 12

Explanation:

Coordination number (C.N.) was originally described in 1893 by Alfred Werner. It refers to the total number of neighbours of a central atom in a particular molecule or ion. To determine the coordination number of an atom we use the process of X-ray crystallography.

The catalysts or Transition-metal complexes have been characterized with coordination numbers that range from 1 to 12, but the most common coordination numbers are 2, 4, and 6.

The coordination numbers are well- specified for atoms in the interior side of a crystal lattice. The number of neighbors of an interior atom is the bulk coordination number.

Gnerally, the surface coordination number is smaller than the bulk coordination number.  In a body-centered cubic (BCC) crystal, the bulk coordination number is generally 8, whereas, for the (100) surface, the surface coordination number is 4.

Hope it helps!
