The cells in the root cap are \textbf {Dead}.

The reason to this particular objective is quite simple. The root cap is a structure which is accomplished by a particular organ-like formation which is done through the root tip. It has the function of surrounding and protecting the always dividing meristematic tissue and it's stem cells (for growth into different tissues) at the growing root tip.
If we compare to other plant organs, the root cap has the exhibition of rapid turnover and short-lived cells which are constantly under the regulation of a labyrinthine balance which is crucial for cell generation (generative cell formations), differentiation and re-diffrentiation of the cells, and in particular the degeneration and removal of the cells. The root tips are influencing directional root growth, so, it decides the direction and it is also linked to the root cap (hence, the second function). The root cap is already disposed and embedded for receiving and the transition including the transmitting of environmental informations governed by its own surroundings to the roots. Since the root caps have dead cells they are supportive in function (as said above), so, they also help in the elongation of the cells and just behind it are constantly forming and dividing cells called the root tip, so, the root growth only occurs at the root tips and not the root cap.
