The census of India held in 2001, recorded more than 1500disyinct languages which people mentioned as their mother tongue.then how is it that we say that India has 114languages?​

The census language report published in 2011 that there were 22 scheduled languages and 99 unscheduled languages.

More than 528 million (almost 41% population) people mentioned Hindi as their mother language.

However, 0.2% of people mentioned their mother tongues which lumped under the unscheduled languages.
