area of rectangular hall = l × b
22 × 15.5 = 341 sq m (1)
area of carpet
length = 22 - 1.5 = 20.5
width = 15.5 - 1.5 = 14
l × b
20.5 × 14 = 287 sq m (2)
area of strip uncovered
(1) - (2)
341 - 287 = 54 sq m
