The central hollow part of the long bone is called as the medullary cavity.

The medullary cavity contains of bone marrow.

The bone marrow is called as the site of production of red blood cells.

The bone marrow contains two types of stem cells they are hemopoietic (which can produce blood cells) and stromal (which can produce fat, cartilage and bone).

There are two types of bone marrow: red marrow (also known as myeloid tissue) and yellow marrow.
