The central location of India at the head of the Indian ocean is considered of great significance as it has the longest coastline on it that has helped a lot in maintaining trade relationships with other countries.
Travelling was known to be only possible through the land routes but this long coastline of india helped in building some sea routes and port cities that enhanced the travelling and trading business of india.
The ideas of Panchatantra, decimal system, zero and sanskrit also got communicated in all the directions through these sea routes.
After all, Indian ocean is known after India as it is the only country which has the larges coastline on it.
Hope that helps you..........:)
