The chance that the system analyst A will get a project approval is 70%. The chance that the project will be completed with his team within the time allotted is 30% and the chance that the project is withdrawn due to the incompletion(not completed in time) is 80%. A project has been approved but withdrawn after some time. What is the probability that the project has been got by A?

given probability of approval, completion and withdrawal of a project by 'A', find probability that project was given to 'A'

Explanation:

  1. let there be two independent events M and N then the probability that both the event M and N we occur is given as product of individual probabilities of M and N occurring (given they are independent of each other)   => P(M\cap N)=P(M).P(N)       ----(a)
  2. now let the there be three events M,N and O such that                                      M->'A' will get project approval , P(M)=70\%= 0.7

        N'->'A' will not complete project within time , P(N')=(100-30)\%= 0.7

        O-> project will be withdrawn due incompletion , P(O)=80\%= 0.8

    3. then probability that project approved but withdrawn after some time

         given to 'A' is,   P(M\cap N'\cap O)= P(M).P(N').P(O)

                                   P(M\cap N'\cap O)= 0.7(0.7)(0.8)

                                   P(M\cap N'\cap O)= 0.392     ----->ANSWER
