We have the expresions:

Change in internal energy ΔU = n Cv ΔT ---------------(1)

PV = nRT

Differentiating ,

P ΔV = nR ΔT

PV = nR ΔT (as ΔV = V)

ΔT = PV/nR ------------------------(2)

Substituting (2) in (1) we get

ΔU = nCv PV/nR

= Cv PV/R

= Cv PV/(Cp−Cv) (as R = Cp−Cv )

= PV/[(Cp−Cv )/Cv ]

= PV/(ɣ − 1)
