The change in length due to a tensile or compressive force acting on a body is given by
(where P = Tensile or compressive force acting on the body, L = Original length of the body,
A = Cross-sectional area of the body, and E = Young's modulus for the material of the body)

answer : option (2) AE/PL

explanation : we know, Young's modulus is the ratio of stress to strain.

stress = tensile or compressive force acting on the body/ cross sectional area

strain = change in length/original length.

so, Young's modulus = tensile force × original length/(change in length × cross sectional area)

given, E = Young's modulus, P = tensile force , cross sectional area = A and original length = L

so, E = P × L/(change in length × A)

change in length = AE/PL

hence, option (2) AE/PL is correct
