The chemical change involving iron and hydrochloric acid acid illustrates a displacement reaction. Hydrogen is displaced from hydrochloric acid since the iron is found above the the hydrogen in the reactivity series. The product formed is iron (III) chloride and hydrogen gas. And in terms of observation there will be bubbles and production of a gas which burns with a pop sound.

2Fe (s) + 6HCl(aq) ⇒ 2FeCl3(aq) + 3H2(g)
