Hydrochloric acid = HCl
When a metal (Fe) reacts with an acid (HCl) , Hydrogen gas is liberated .
Here is the reaction that takes place :-
This reaction is an example of oxidation reaction , where HCl gets oxidised to H₂ [ removal of Hydrogen ]
Fe + 2HCl ----> FeCl₂ + H₂
