The chemical reaction between MnO2 and HCl is an example of redox reaction.

  1. Redox reaction is the type of reaction where both reduction and oxidation takes place.
  2. The reaction is as follows -

MnO2 + 4HCl --> MnCl2 + 2H2O + Cl2

3. MnO2 is Manganese dioxide, HCl is hydrogen chloride, MnCl2 is manganese chloride, H2O is water and Cl2 is chlorine gas.

4.In the reaction, reduction of Manganese dioxide to manganese chloride takes place and hydrogen Chloride is oxidised to chlorine.
