Genes are made up of a chemical called Deoxyribonucleic aci (DNA). DNA in turn, consists of two long polymers of simple units called nucleotides, with backbones made of sugars and phosphate groups joined by ester bonds. There are 4 types of nucleotide Cytosine, Guanine, Thymine, Adenine and it is the sequence of these four nucleotides along the backbone that encodes information which is the blueprint for life.

The chemical substance that constitutes the genes is deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA) which helps in the character formation and the genetic formation of the new being.
DNA is present inside the structure known as chromosomes which then further divided into daughter cells .
