Say compound is MCly and weight of atom isW. ( By cross multiplication method of charge of ions you can easily figure it out that compound can be written in MCly form).
Molecular weight = 2x vapour density= 2x50. = 100g
Weight of Chlorine is 71% by weight so,
yx35.5 =71 so, y=2
Now we have
W + 35.5y =100
W+ 71 =100
W= 29.
